Rising proudly in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, Himeji Castle is known as Shirasagi-jo (“White Heron Castle”) for its elegant white exterior and is widely regarded as the best-preserved castle in Japan.

The castle consists of more than 80 interconnected buildings, protected by complex moats and gates. Its origins date back to a 15th-century fortress, and it was completed in its current grand form in 1609.

Unlike many other castles in Japan, Himeji Castle survived wars, earthquakes, and fires, and today it remains both a National Treasure and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In recent years, exclusive experiences such as private night tours and traditional Japanese boat cruises around the inner moat have emerged, offering unique perspectives beyond regular daytime visits.

In this article, we explore the history of Himeji Castle, the reasons behind its global popularity, and the highlights of these special tours and surrounding attractions.

What Is Himeji Castle? And Why Is It So Popular?

Himeji Castle, often called the “White Heron Castle,” is famous for its brilliant white plaster walls and graceful main keep complex.

Its high stone walls and maze-like pathways were strategically designed to prevent enemy invasion. Visitors walking toward the main keep must pass through multiple gates and winding routes.

Inside, steep staircases and narrow interiors reflect defensive architecture intended to slow attackers.

From the top floor, you can enjoy panoramic views of Himeji City and observe details such as the fish-shaped roof ornaments (shachigawara), believed to protect the structure from fire.

Reasons for its popularity include:

UNESCO World Heritage & National Treasure status, preserving early Edo-period castle architecture in its original form.

A famous cherry blossom viewing spot in spring, especially around Sannomaru Square.

Seasonal illuminations (2025–2026), where the castle glows white at night, offering a completely different atmosphere from daytime.

Increasing experiential programs such as English guided tours, private night tours, and traditional boat cruises.

Highlights of the Special Night Tour

The private night tour offers a rare opportunity to explore Himeji Castle after closing hours.

Certain sections of the castle are opened exclusively, including areas normally off-limits, guided by historians or curators.

You’ll learn about feudal lords, samurai life, and the structure of stone walls and turrets.

Participants may also experience wearing samurai armor and take commemorative photos with replica swords and spears.

The highlight is viewing the illuminated castle from the top of the main keep at night — a breathtaking sight in a quiet, exclusive atmosphere.

Limited to one group per day, the tour can be customized based on participants’ interests, making it ideal for history enthusiasts or special occasions.

The traditional Japanese wooden boat cruise circles the inner moat surrounding Himeji Castle.

Two boats, “Harima” and “Shirasagi,” are operated by a boatman using a single oar in classic Edo-period style.

From the water, the castle appears even more majestic, and you can closely observe stone wall markings and drainage structures often overlooked from land.

There are three excellent photo spots: beneath the Hyakken Corridor (associated with Princess Sen), near Sakuramon Bridge, and by the red bridge in front of the zoo.

It consists of nine distinct Edo-style gardens built on the former residence of the feudal lord.

Visitors can enjoy matcha and traditional sweets while viewing the castle from the garden.

The West Bailey (Nishi-no-Maru), said to be Princess Sen’s residence, is another highlight with close views of the keep complex.

Suddenly, have you ever been to cormorant fishing on the Nagara River in Gifu?

It’s much more casual and enjoyable than generally imagined.

“Interested but never found the right opportunity…” Representing those people, two young individuals have experienced cormorant fishing!

This time, Mr. K, an office worker, and Mr. T, a graduate student, tried cormorant fishing on the Nagara River.

related tour

Food and drinks of your choice are allowed on the viewing boat

Then, the next concern is about food.

You might think you have to prepare a proper meal, but that’s not the case at all.

You can bring any food and drink you like.

“It’s more casual than I thought,” said Mr. T, who bought sandwiches and doughnuts.

Upon arrival, the first place to visit is the cormorant fishing viewing boat office.

Here, they registered and received their boarding passes. They spent the waiting time at the cormorant fishing viewing boat waiting area.

Also, if you want to buy cold drinks just before boarding, the nearby Nagara River Department Store is convenient. They also sold drinks related to the Nagara River.

Got to learn about the history of cormorant fishing!

As the departure time approached, the two headed to the viewing boat dock.

From 5:45 PM, they listened to a “cormorant fishing explanation” by the master.

“Listening to the highlights and history of cormorant fishing got us excited,” said Mr. K.

Then, the viewing boat they boarded departed at 6:15 PM.

You might think that cormorant fishing starts as soon as you board the boat, but actually, it begins much later.

First, there’s time to eat slowly.

They headed upstream while enjoying the scenery along the Nagara River.

The view from the river, especially during summer evenings, is enchanting as you feel the breeze and watch the sunset.

Enjoying conversations and meals on the boat

They arrived at the upstream mooring place. Until cormorant fishing starts at around 7:45 PM, there’s plenty of time for a leisurely meal.

“The atmosphere is completely different from eating inside a room,” said Mr. Kawase, the boatman.

“Drinking with good friends in an open atmosphere is a unique joy of the viewing boat,” agreed Mr. K and Mr. T.

Mr. Kawase, a veteran boatman of 35 years, responded with a smile when asked what makes his job interesting: “It’s definitely getting to talk with various customers like this.”

Also, the open setting makes it easy to quickly become friends with others on the same boat.

“Spending time enjoying conversations is really satisfying,” both agreed.

Careful attention to comfort, from clean toilets to knee blankets

On this early autumn day, as it began to feel a bit chilly after sunset, Mr. Adachi, another boatman, discreetly offered knee blankets to the two women.

Talking with the women, he shared that he is a graduate student and works part-time as a boatman. These encounters on the boat are also a charm of cormorant fishing.

Another highlight of the Nagara River’s cormorant fishing is the availability of clean toilets. You can use a dedicated boat for the toilets once you disembark on the riverbank.

The overwhelming beauty of cormorant fishing was beyond imagination

After enjoying a leisurely meal, it was finally time for cormorant fishing.

The start signal is four fireworks at around 7:45 PM.

They experienced “hunting downstream” that evening, following the cormorant boats down the dark river illuminated by bonfires scattering sparks.

The beauty of this scene was truly breathtaking.

And Mr. Kawase pointed out, “You must see the master’s skill with the hand ropes.” Controlling the cormorants with 8 to 12 ropes in his left hand, he maneuvers the birds underwater and on the surface as they catch fish.

Watching the cormorants emerge from the water with fish, one could imagine how this sacred act was viewed by people over a millennium ago.

And then came the climax of the evening when six cormorant boats lined up side by side to corral the ayu fish in a maneuver called “total netting,” unique to the Nagara River among the ten places in Japan where cormorant fishing is practiced.

“Tokugawa Ieyasu enjoyed cormorant fishing here on his way back from the Battle of Sekigahara,” explained Mr. Kawase as freshly caught ayu was brought over.

The ayu caught by the cormorants is indeed a precious delicacy.

An Evening of Continuous Awe at Nagara River’s Cormorant Fishing

First, they enjoyed the scenery and relaxed with food and drinks, then quickly descended the river to experience the dramatic thrill of cormorant fishing.

It’s entertainment with a perfect narrative arc.

That’s the real Nagara River cormorant fishing experience. “It was more fun than I expected, and I want to do it again,” said Mr. T.

Mr. K also expressed, “I’m very satisfied with the ‘This is Gifu!’ scenery. Now that I know it’s easy to attend, I’d like to bring friends from out of town.”

Their cormorant fishing experience turned out to be more satisfying than they anticipated!
The post 【Experience!】I tried cormorant fishing on the Nagara River in Gifu, and it was ○○!! first appeared on JATRABRIDGE.

In Tokyo, there are many parks and shrines where you can admire the delicate and beautiful wisteria trellises.

The sight of wisteria trellises releasing a sweet fragrance while drooping their light purple and white flower clusters is truly fantastical!

We introduce seven “wisteria viewing spots” where you can enjoy the spring scenery.

[Hibiya] Even during a shopping date! Enjoy wisteria flowers in the urban oasis of Hibiya Park

Adjacent to office districts and commercial facilities, “Hibiya Park” located in the heart of Tokyo, was established in the 36th year of the Meiji era as “Japan’s first modern Western-style park.”

The park, rich in greenery and open space, features squares, ponds, and flower beds, acting as an urban oasis.

Inside the park, you can enjoy seasonal flowers, among which wisteria flowers have three viewing spots within the park itself.

First, head to the area around Kumogata Pond in the center of the park.

Immerse yourself in the picturesque landscape formed by the waterfront and wisteria trellis, enjoying a luxurious moment with your partner!

Moving further to the east side near the first flower bed and the tennis court, you’ll encounter “a new charm of wisteria” that shows different expressions depending on the scenery (※Entry to the tennis court is prohibited for non-users).

Additionally, during this period, besides wisteria, tulips and azaleas are also at their peak!

Surrounded by beautiful flowers coloring the park vividly, let’s fully refresh ourselves.

How about taking a moment to relax during a shopping date in Yurakucho or Ginza?

[Kameido] The happiness of feeling elegant beauty at a wisteria spot known as “the best in Tokyo” / Kameido Tenjin Shrine

Kameido Tenjin Shrine, cherished as “the best wisteria spot in Tokyo,” has a history of wisteria dating back to the Edo period.

Kameido was a marshland, so the first head priest planted wisteria, which likes water, at the shrine, marking the beginning.

Since then, the wisteria at Kameido Tenjin Shrine has been cherished as a famous spot in Edo, with records of visits by the fifth shogun, Tsunayoshi, and the eighth shogun, Yoshimune.

Underneath the wisteria trellis lies the “Shinji Pond,” and the wisteria reflected on the water surface offers another level of beauty.

The collaboration between the wisteria and “Tokyo Skytree(R)” is also one of the attractions.

The beauty of wisteria under the blue sky during the day and the serene atmosphere at night, when the wisteria flowers are illuminated, are different.

The illuminated wisteria offers breathtaking beauty (illumination schedule to be determined).

The Wisteria Festival is held in mid-April every year.

Hie Shrine, known as a god of warding off evil, safe childbirth, matchmaking, thriving business, and prosperity of the clan, enshrines “Oyamakui-no-kami.”

In the Edo period, Tokugawa Ieyasu established it as the “castle’s guardian shrine” and “the birth god of the Tokugawa throughout the generations.” Additionally, it was revered by the people of Edo as “the total clan god of Edo” and “the birth god of Edo.”

It has recently gained popularity as a power spot.

The wisteria trellis is located to the right as you face the main shrine.

The vivid contrast between the purple of the wisteria and the vermillion of the shrine pavilion is beautiful, making it a recommended “photo spot.”

Surrounded by the scent of wisteria flowers, when you look behind, you will see high-rise buildings!

In 1629, Tokugawa Yorifusa, the founder of the Mito Tokugawa family, constructed “Koishikawa Korakuen” as the garden of the Edo residence, which was completed during the era of the second clan lord, Mitsukuni.

It is the oldest existing daimyo (feudal lord) garden in Tokyo, designated as a Special Historic Site and Special Place of Scenic Beauty by the country.

The Japanese garden, centered around a large pond, is characterized by being divided into four areas: “views of the sea,” “views of the river,” “views of the mountains,” and “views of the countryside.”

One of the early Edo period daimyo gardens remaining in Tokyo is “Former Shiba Rikyu Garden.”

A typical “strolling pond garden” centered around a pond, its garden layout and rock arrangements are exquisite.

Just a 1-minute walk from the north exit of Hamamatsucho Station and a 3-minute walk from Daimon Station, its ease of access is excellent.

The wisteria trellis is located near the entrance, with three wisteria trees adding splendor to the garden.

There are benches under the wisteria trellis, allowing you to slowly relax while admiring the beautiful flowers against the blue sky.

From “Waters Takeshiba,” an 8-minute walk from the garden, water buses depart for a mini-trip on a boat to Odaiba or Asakusa!

[Chofu] Leisurely enjoy the grand beauty of the “Millennium Wisteria” together! / Kokuryo Shrine

Kokuryo Shrine, which enshrines “Kamimusubi no Kami” (the deity of creation and life and its regenerative powers), was formed in 1875 by merging Kokuryo Shrine (The Sixth Heaven Shrine) and Shinmei Shrine (Yakumo Shinmei Shrine & Sugimori Shinmei Shrine).

In the shrine precincts, there is a sacred wisteria tree regarded as a divine tree, believed to be about 400-500 years old.

Locally, this divine tree is affectionately called “Millennium Wisteria.”

The wisteria trellis is about 4m high and covers an area of about 400m², adorning the entire trellis with light purple flower clusters and enveloping the precincts with a sweet fragrance.

The contrast between the blue of the sky and the purple of the wisteria is incredibly beautiful, making it hard not to gaze in admiration.

The relatively small precincts are perfect for leisurely enjoying the wisteria together.

During the wisteria blooming season, there are also offerings of “Millennium Wisteria” amulets and ema (votive picture tablets), so be sure to check them out.

Jindai Botanical Gardens is located in the famous tourist area of Chofu City, the “Jindaiji” area.

Originally a nursery for growing trees for Tokyo’s streets, it opened in 1961 as the only botanical garden in Tokyo.

The garden, retaining the ambiance of Musashino, allows visitors to enjoy various plants throughout the seasons, creating a “light purple curtain” of splendid wisteria flowers in spring.

What’s distinctive is the abundance of types, such as the garden variety of Noda Wisteria “Kokuryu” and the garden variety of Yamafuji “Shiro Capitan”, allowing visitors to enjoy as many as 13 varieties of wisteria flowers.

During this period, azaleas and rhododendrons are also at their peak, making it a point to enjoy them together with the wisteria.

The flowers hanging from the wisteria trellises are beautiful, right? Depending on the location, they may be lit up at night, making them popular tourist attractions.

We’ve compiled a list of recommended spots that are worth visiting.

The best time to see wisteria flowers is from late April to early May!

Hakuhouji Temple (Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture)

Hakuhouji Temple (Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture) is renowned for its wisteria, which features long branches known as “Kujaku Fuji.”

Places famous for their wisteria, like Hakuhouji Temple, offer nighttime illuminations.

It’s great to take pictures of the wisteria illuminated in the darkness of the night.

The location is generally accessible only by car.

It gets incredibly crowded during Golden Week.

It’s recommended to go early in the day.

I went in the morning, but on my way back, there was a tremendous traffic jam of cars.

Shirai Omachi Fuji Park (Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture)

Shirai Omachi Fuji Park, as the name “Fuji Park” suggests, offers the enjoyment of many wisteria flowers.

Shirai Omachi Fuji Park (Shirai Omachi Fuji Koen) is the leading wisteria park in the San’in region with a park area of 7,000 square meters, a total wisteria trellis length of 500 meters, and a width of 4 meters.

Surrounded by clear air and green mountains, the purple and white wisteria flowers are vibrant and beautiful, captivating people.

In addition to the central pond and the wisteria trellises surrounding the park, there are also waterwheels and waterwheel huts, allowing the enjoyment of traditional landscapes.

The park opens in conjunction with the wisteria blooming season, and a Wisteria Festival is held with sales of local products and sweets.

Note that in 2022, after measures against the coronavirus, Shirai Omachi Fuji Park reopened, but the Wisteria Festival with merchandise sales did not take place.

In 2023, snack stalls, such as La Ilac’s ice gelato, have returned.

It seems that the festival can be enjoyed from 2024 onwards.

Sumiyoshi Shrine (Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture)

Sumiyoshi Shrine was founded in the 8th year of Emperor Yuryaku (464 AD).

The wisteria planted in the mid-Meiji era has now become a large wisteria trellis, swaying in the sea breeze, entertaining visitors.

In the shrine precincts, various historical buildings can also be seen. The Noh stage on the south side of the main hall is a designated cultural property of Akashi City and was selected as one of the “Top 100 Historical Cultural Properties of Fisheries and Fishing Villages to be Preserved for the Future” (selected by the Fisheries Agency in 2006).

In 1627, under the orders of the first lord of Akashi Domain, Ogasawara Tadazane, it was created and will reach its 400th anniversary in 2027.

It is also a famous spot for hydrangeas blooming in early summer.

The view of the Harima Sea from the torii gate fascinates many people.

Nakayama Kannon Park (Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture)

Adjacent to Nakayama Temple, Nakayama Kannon Park features a large wisteria trellis where you can enjoy white and purple wisteria flowers.

In the plaza of Nakayama Kannon Park, a wisteria trellis extends for about 100 meters, becoming a highlight from mid-April after the cherry blossoms have finished.

There are two types of wisteria: purple and white.

As there are fewer people, you can slowly enjoy the wisteria flowers and their fragrance.

Benten Pond (Takarazuka City, Hyogo Prefecture)

It’s not particularly large, but it’s personally one of my favorite places.

Information

Overview of Mirai Shin no Oka

Mirai Shin no Oka is located on Ikuchijima Island in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

Ikuchijima is an important island on the Shimanami Sea Route, and in the old days it developed as a base for the navy, which grew in power in the Seto Inland Sea.

Today, the island is known for its fishing industry and cultivation of lemons and navel oranges.

The Setoda Biennale, an art project that started in the late 1980s, has transformed the island into an “art museum for the whole island,” with the Kosanji Museum, the Hirayama Ikuo Museum of Art, which displays the works of Hirayama Ikuo, a painter from the island, and many other artworks scattered throughout the island.

The most famous of these is “The Hill Of Hope” (The Hill Of Hope).

The 5,000-square-meter garden is lined with marble sculptures created by the world-renowned sculptor, Ittou Kuetani.

At the age of just 20, Kazuto Kuetani was selected for the Nitten exhibition, and since then he has been selected eight times in a row.

He is currently active mainly in Italy, and is an international artist who once had an audience with the Pope at the Vatican Palace.

The Hill Of Hope is made of marble mined in Cuttura, Italy, where Kazuto Kaitani has his workshop, transported by container ship, and displayed as various monuments in the plaza.

At the “The Hill Of Hope” visitors can not only enjoy looking at the artworks, but can actually touch them with their hands and play with them in harmony with nature.

Of course, you can also enter the pure white sculptures and take photos of them.

History of “Hill of Future Hearts

Kozanji Temple is a temple of the Honganji sect of the Jodo Shinshu sect.

The founder of the temple is Kozo Kozanji, an engineer and businessman who used to run a large special steel pipe manufacturing company in Osaka.

Kozanji is also known as the “Nikko of the West,” a place where various arts, crafts, and cultural assets are gathered.

The temple’s precincts are lined with the Koyomon Gate, a replica of Nikko Toshogu’s Yomei-mon Gate, and the main hall, a replica of Byodoin’s Phoenix Hall.

15 buildings are registered as Tangible Cultural Properties, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Seto Inland Sea.

As part of its efforts to promote artistic activities on the island, the temple started construction of “Miraishin No Oka”, which is now a popular tourist spot visited by many people.

How to get to Miraishin no Oka

Car

To get to Kozanji Temple, where Miraishin No Oka is located, drive from Onomichi Interchange or Fukuyama Nishi Interchange via Nishi-Seto Onomichi Interchange and Ikuchijima Kita Interchange.

It takes about 13 minutes from the Ikuchijima Kita Interchange.

If you use the Shimanami Kaido Highway, it is about 13 minutes from the Imabari Interchange via the Ikuchijima Minami Interchange.

Taxi

It takes about 40 minutes from Onomichi Station, about 32 minutes from Shin-Onomichi Station, and about 50 minutes from Fukuyama Station.

Ferry/Boat

You can also take a boat, which takes about 40 minutes by regular boat from Onomichi Port, about 25 minutes by rapid train from Mihara Port, and about 10 minutes by foot from Setoda Port.

From Mihara Sunami Port, it is about 28 minutes by ferry, and a 13-minute walk via Sawa Port.

Others

If you are coming from Imabari or Matsuyama, the bus is a convenient way to access the island.

“Miraishin no Oka” and Instagram

When you actually visit “Miraishin No Oka”, you will be amazed at the majestic white marble sculptures that cover the entire area.

It is sometimes compared to the Greek island of Santorini, which is also lined with white buildings, but while most of the buildings on Santorini are houses, the buildings on Miraishin no Oka are huge columns, stairs, and monuments.

It is rather majestic, reminiscent of the huge ruins of Greece.

In addition, the Seto Inland Sea where Miraishin No Oka is located has a blue sky, and the contrast between the white of the sculptures and the blue of the sky is so beautiful that it exploded in popularity on Instagram.

Even now, it is gaining popularity among many people in search of Instagrammable photos.

Photo spots at the Hill of Future Spirit

There are many monuments and objects with different themes in the Miraishin No Oka.

One of the most popular photo spots is the “Komei no Tou(Tower of Light),” which stands at the highest point of the hill.

The Tower of Light is a popular place for couples to stand under the tower and take pictures with the sky in the background.

The “Kaze no shiki(Four Seasons of Wind)” is also popular for those who want to take a different kind of photo.

These marble screens represent the winds of the four seasons, each with its own image to match the season.

This marble folding screen has a hole in it through which you can see the sea of the Seto Inland Sea.

This is a place where you can take a variety of Instagrammable photos depending on your ideas.

In addition to this, “Miraishin No Oka” is made of marble everywhere, so there is no shortage of photo spots to take pictures.

Popular cafes in Miraishin Hill

If you visit Miraishin No Oka, you should definitely go to the cafe, Cafe Cuore, which looks like a marble border.

Not only the exterior of the building, but also the inside of the cafe is made of pure white marble, and the view of the Seto Inland Sea from there is like the Mediterranean or Aegean Sea.

The furniture in the cafe is also an original design by Kazuto Kaitani.

The grapes carved into the marble and the figure of Venus, the goddess of beauty, make it look like a restaurant in a high-end European resort.

You can enjoy cappuccino, cafe au lait, and Italian beer, but what you must try is the menu using the island’s specialty citrus fruits.

In particular, the lemon squash here is a real treat with lemon pulp.

The lemon squash made with Setoda lemons, a specialty of the island, is a refreshing drink with a unique aroma and taste that you won’t find anywhere else.

The gelato here is also a popular menu item.

You can find the standard ones such as vanilla and green tea, but the citrus gelato and sorbet made from the famous summer tangerines are also exceptional.

When the weather is nice, the terrace is a great place to sit.

Spending time under a white parasol looking out at the marble garden is a great way to feel like you are at a resort.

Mount Maya(Maya-San) is one of Kobe’s most popular nighttime viewing spots, and is one of the three most spectacular night views in Japan.

The ropeway is a convenient way to get to the observation deck.

A night view photographer explains how to make the most of your night in Kobe, from dinner at a restaurant, night view photography to sunrise.

I’ll be introducing some of Kobe’s best nightscape spots.

In this article, I’ll be introducing the night view of Kobe.

Kobe’s night view includes Kobe Harborland in the Bay Area, the illuminated Kobe Luminarie, and the vibrant and lively Nankin Chinatown.

One of the most popular night views in Kobe is “Mount Maya Kikusoeidai“, where you can look down on the mountain for a panoramic view of the city.

Here, I’ll explain the features of the nightscape seen from Mount Maya and how to access it.

Mount Maya and Japan’s 3 Night Nightscapes

Now let’s get to Maya Mountain…!

Before that, I would like to show you how Mount Maya is ranked among the many night view spots in Japan.

Suddenly, have you ever heard of the “Japan’s 3 Night Nightscapes“?

Even if you’re not familiar with night views, many of you have heard of them at least once.

But where are the three spots pointed by Japan’s three greatest night views?

There are only a few people who understand everything correctly.

Mount Hakodate

Mount Maya

Inasa Mountains

The three greatest night views in Japan are, from the north, Mount Hakodate in Hokkaido, Mount Maya in Kobe, and Mount Inasa in Nagasaki.

To put it simply, they are Japan’s top three night views.

Some people sometimes misunderstand Kobe’s top three nightscapes in Japan as Mount Rokko, but technically it is actually Mount Maya.

In fact, there are no clear records of who was selected as one of Japan’s three most famous night views, and when and by what criteria.

They are all located on a mountain in a port city, and they are certainly of perfect beauty.

In terms of city size, Hakodate, Nagasaki and Kobe have the largest populations of 260,000, 420,000 and 1.53 million.

Based on the ideas of “large population” ⇒ “economic scale” ⇒ “plenty of light at night,”

So, it can be said that the nightscape seen from Mount Maya has the most amount of light among the three major nightscapes in Japan.

Of course, the beauty of the night view also depends on geographical conditions, so a city with a larger population does not necessarily have a more beautiful night view.

However, there is no doubt that the night view from Mt. Maya is more powerful with more light than Other mountains.

How to Get to Mount Maya

Now, let me introduce the access to Mount Maya.

There are two main ways to get to Mount Maya observation deck.

One way is to use public transportation.

The other way is by car.

If you drive, you’ll have to drive on a mountain road from the foot of the mountain, but the roads are clean and well maintained, and if you use a car navigation system, you’ll have no problem accessing the site for the first time.

There is a large coin-operated parking lot, so you won’t have any trouble finding a place to park.

The only thing that can complicate things is access by public transportation.

You’ll need to take a bus, cable car, and ropeway, which may be a bit confusing for first-time visitors.

The advantages and disadvantages of each are summarized below.

Public Transportation

Advantages
You can enjoy a different night view from the observation deck.

The cable car has a guide to Mount

Disadvantage
Transfer is complicated.

You have to keep an eye on the last flight

The cable car and ropeway are only open at night on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, except in the summer.

Car

Advantages
You can see the night view without worrying about the time.

The more people accessing the site, the more you save money.

Disadvantage
It’s a 10-minute walk from the parking lot to the observation deck.

In this article, I will explain in detail how to get there by public transportation, which is easy for tourists to use.

How to get to Mount Maya from Sannomiya Station

The rout is Sannnomiya Station ⇒ Bus(18) ⇒ Maya Cablecar ⇒ Maya Ropeway

Start From Sannnomiya Station

The starting point is Sannomiya Station, the main station in Kobe.

The first place you go is the east exit of JR Sannomiya Station.

You will see a red signboard at the Kobe City General Information Center near the taxi stand, where you can purchase a ticket to the observation deck.

Tell the receptionist that you wish to purchase a one-day ticket for Rokko-Maya.

The advantage of this ticket is that you get a little bit of a discount, and since the tickets are bundled together, you don’t have to buy a ticket for each stop.

Take Bus

The bus stop is located at platform 3, just outside the tourist information center.

From here, take bus 18.

Ask about the bus stop and bus boarding times when you buy your ticket, as they will politely tell you where to go and when to board the bus.

Especially on weekends, many tourists come to see the night view of the observation deck, so if you want to sit in the bus, it’s a good idea to get in line early.

It takes about 25 minutes from Sannomiya Station to downtown Kobe and then gradually into the residential area.

Take Maya Cablecar

Maya Cable Station, at the foot of Mount.

Although this is a quiet residential area, the station has an outstanding presence.

Normally, you buy a ticket for the cable car here, but this time I bought a ticket set in advance, so I got on the cable car as it is.

This is also the privilege of the ticket set.

There are two types of cable car cars: the green car and the red car.

You can enjoy which one you get to ride.

The cable car started moving a short time after I got on the train.

Most of the seats in the car are facing the opposite direction of going, but the only one facing the direction of going is next to the driver’s seat.

On the cable car line, you can almost only see the trees around you if you look at the foot side, so I highly recommend sitting on the direction of travel for the outward journey!

It takes about 5 minutes to get to the Niji(rainbow) station.

When you get off the cable car, you can see a little bit of the night view from the station, but the observation deck is not on this level.

You will change to the Maya Ropeway from here.

Take Maya Ropeway

It takes about two minutes walk to transfer to get ropeway station.

Please be careful not to spend too much time at the ropeway station, because you may miss the ropeway if you spend too long.

In such a case, I missed the ropeway because I spent too much time watching the photo gallery at the Niji station.

This time, the extra flight arrived at just the right time and I was able to board.

The view of Mount Maya started after you got on the ropeway.

When I went up to the observation deck gradually…

The field of vision opened up, the night view of Kobe, and then Osaka, and the range of vision got wider and wider, and the further I went, the more excited.

Inside the car, the lights are dimmed so there is no reflection in the glass, making it easy to see the night view.

NightView From Mount

As soon as you get off the gondola, you will see the observation deck.

And if you go to the observation deck…

This is the night view from the Mount Maya Observation Deck, one of the three greatest nightscapes in Japan!

The panoramic view extends to the city of Kobe in the west and Osaka in the east, and it would be impossible to capture it in one picture.

You can even see as far as Wakayama in the back.

The energetic lights of the two major cities, Kobe and Osaka, give off a scale of light that is hard to see in other nightscape spots, and the moment you see the night view you would say “Oh my God!”

A night view on such a large scale cannot be seen in Tokyo or any other large city.

I still remember the excitement I felt when I first saw the night view from the Observation Deck.

Let’s take a closer look at each area.

Kobe Airport is the one floating on the port of Kobe.

It’s quite far away, but you can see Kansai Airport.

There aren’t many spots where you can see both airports floating on the sea.

This is the area where the airports are densely populated, and when you look at the night view, you can see planes constantly flying over Osaka Bay.

Let’s take a look at the Osaka area.

Kobe is in the foreground and Osaka is in the background.

The thickness of the city and the shimmering skyscrapers in the background are overwhelming!

Atmosphere of the Observation Deck

There are two viewpoints at the observation deck, one of which is the observation deck near the ropeway station.

There is plenty of room to sit down, but it’s crowded on weekends as people exiting the station are the first to head there.

The other observation deck is located a little further up the road.

It’s a common occurrence at nighttime viewing spots that too the observation deck in front of station get crowded, so don’t hesitate to go to the back.

The beautiful night view is not the only point of interest.

On the ground of the observation deck, there is a Milky Way-like structure called the “Kira kira shokei(Twinkle Twinkle Path),” which is a fantastic sight that will enchant you.

The glittering path leads to the observatory at the back of the station, so you and your partner can walk on the Milky Way after getting off the station.

You’ll be even more impressed when you see one of Japan’s three greatest night views stretching out beyond!

Dinner with a Night View

After admiring the night view and taking pictures, you are now hungry.

In that case, I recommend Maya View Terrace 702, a restaurant on the second floor of the ropeway station.

They serve curry and hamburger steak as well as alcohol.

I recommend seating at the window side counter!

It’s a luxurious experience to dine with a view of one of Japan’s three greatest nightscapes.

Enjoy the Night View on the Way Home

You’ll want to gaze at the night view forever, but you’ll also have to pay attention to your return time.

Before the last flight departs, an announcement will be made, so be sure not to miss it.

You can see the night view from inside the gondola on the way back.

You can’t see the night view from the gondola on the way back, and it’s a bit like finishing a book you’ve been enjoying reading.

It’s a little lonely, but you’ll never forget the excitement of that night view.

When you get down to the bottom of the mountain, take the bus to Sannomiya station to get back to the station.

Also Recommend Sunrise

I’ve given this explanation based on the premise that it is accessible by public transportation.

But what you can’t see in time by public transportation is the morning sunrise.

In fact, observation deck is not only good for the night view, but it’s also a famous place for sunrise.

You can see the sky toward Osaka beautifully before the sunrises because the view faces east, so you can see the sunrise.

The balance between the brightness of the city and the degree of burning of the sky is well-balanced and the scene 50 minutes to 40 minutes before sunrise is recommended.

The sunrises and dyes the whole Osaka Plain red.

The sunrise from here is always beautiful

At the beginning of the year, many people come here just to see the sunrise.

If you have access to the park by car, try to see the sunrise from here!

Finally

I have introduced the night view of the Mount Maya.

It’s fun to ride, impressive to see, and the atmosphere is enchanting.

This article and photos alone won’t convey the true emotions, so I urge you to visit the site and experience one of Japan’s three great night views!

It is an Instagrammable spot in Fukuoka that is secretly hot topic on SNS.

This Miike salt lake is not actually a lake.

But, it’s a great Instagrammable spot.

The name “Miike Salt Lake” is derived from the fact that, when the weather conditions are good, the salt mountains and rainwater create a puddle of water that looks just like the real Uyuni Salt Lake.

Miike Salt Lake is a hot topic on SNS for its amazing view

This Miike salt lake was hot on “Instagram“.

The photos posted by people who have actually been there are so beautiful that you can’t help but stare at the stunning view of Miike Salt Lake.

Miike Salt Lake is a hidden tourist spot that has been quietly spreading by word of mouth and is not well known even by Fukuoka residents.

Uyuni Salt Lake in Chile is one of the most popular places to visit in South America.

Miike Salt Lake in Fukuoka is as fantastic as the Uyuni Salt Lake.

If your timing is right, you can see a view of Fukuoka that looks exactly like Uyuni Salt Lake.

You don’t have to go to Uyuni Salt Lake to see the stunning mirrored view of the lake in Fukuoka.

Miike Salt Lake Basic Information (Address, Access, Parking)

Hours of operation: In the morning

It is important to note that there is no parking at all at Miike Salt Lake.

How to go Miike Salt Lake

The only way to get to Miike Salt Lake is by car or on foot from JR Omuta station.

The closest station to Miike Salt Lake is JR Omuta Station in Omuta City, and it takes about an hour to get to the border with Kumamoto Prefecture on the JR Omuta Line.

Miike Salt Lake is off-limits because it’s private property?

Miike Salt Lake is basically off-limits as it is privately owned by a company (Miike Coal Mine).

The reason why Miike Salt Lake is off-limits is because Miike Salt Lake is the site which was closed in 1997.

The name Miike Salt Lake is also not an official name.

It’s not even a tourist attraction.

Since it is privately owned, the official location has not been disclosed.

That’s why Miike Salt Lake is said to be a secret place, an unexplored region.

Try doing a Google Maps search for Miike Coal Mine.

About Permission to enter Miike Salt Lake

So what do you need to do to get into Miike Salt Lake?

As far as I could find out on the internet, who went to Miike Salt Lake, I couldn’t find any information that they entered Miike Salt Lake with a Permission.

It seems to be difficult to formally enter Miike Salt Lake and take photos.

Caution

It is better not to post photos on social networking sites, because taking photos would be evidence of trespassing.

Timing and the Conditions of Superb View of Lake Miike Salt

If you want to take a Uyuni salt lake like photo at Miike Salt Lake, you have to visit on a day when conditions are right.

The conditions are the day after it rained and the early morning of sunny day..

The point is that it is necessary for rainwater to accumulate on the ground in Miike Salt Lake and for the salt pile of Miike Salt Lake to reflect the sun’s rays there.

If there is no rainwater accumulation, it’s just a huge mass of salt.

If conditions are bad, Miike Salt Lake is not Instagrammable.

Summay of Miike Salt Lake

I did some research on Miike Salt Lake in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture.

A photo posted on “Instagram” made Miike Salt Lake a hot spot.

I found out that if the conditions were right, we could get a beautiful view of Lake Miike Salt Lake, but unfortunately it was difficult to take pictures because it was on private land.

The cobalt-blue spring, which is crystal-clear to a mysterious extent, is vividly colored like a tropical sea!

In recent years, it has been attracting a lot of attention as an Instagrammable spot and a hidden vortex.

In this article, we will introduce the charm of Beppu Benten Pond, the secret of its blue color, and how to access the pond.

Cobalt blue? Emerald green? Mysterious Instagrammable spring!

Beppu Benten Pond is located in the precincts of Beppu Itsukushima Shrine at the foot of the nationally famous scenic spots of Akiyoshidai and Akiyoshido.

It has also been selected as one of the “100 best waters in Japan” designated by the Environment Agency.

The beauty is also called cobalt blue like a tropical sea, or emerald green like a jewel!

Its mysterious colors are sure to make anyone stare at it.

Many people are taking pictures with their smartphones to capture the beauty of this beauty on their cameras.

Why is it blue?

The secret of this blueness lies in the unique karst topography of the region, which is made up of limestone.

In Beppu Benten Pond, there is a clear, calcium-rich water that gushes out.

The spring water is illuminated by sunlight and reflects only blue light, giving it such a mysterious blue appearance.

One theory is that very clear water appears to be blue due to the properties of light and minerals dissolved in the water, but the reason for this has not yet been clarified.

The weather in which the pond looks most beautiful is sunny, where the light tends to reflect.

But depending on the time of day, the shadows of the trees are too unnecessarily reflected in the pond, so the lightly cloudy weather is good.

When the wind is not too strong and there is no wind, the surface of the pond will not be undulating and will look more beautiful.

This photo was taken under clear skies, and the previous photo was taken under light cloudy skies.

https://jatrabridge.com/2019/12/25/3652/

You can even drink the spring water and take it home

Beppu Benten Pond gushes an abundance of 11 tons per minute, and the water temperature remains constant at 14-15 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

You can also drink from the spring water and there is a dedicated water station.

It is said that “one drink will keep you alive for a year, two drinks will keep you alive for two years,” and that it is also a vortex where you will be blessed with treasures.

The taste is adult, with a slight tangy bitterness that lingers on the tongue, perhaps because of the calcium content.

However, it is soft in the throat and the taste makes you want to drink more than one cup.

You can also put spring water on your face and hands to moisturize and keep your skin moisturized.

Beppu Benten Pond is a famous water that is good for your health from the inside and outside.

The largest karst plateau in Japan, Akiyoshidai, is also spectacular!

About 10 kilometers east of Beppu Benten Pond (about 15 minutes by car), you will arrive at Akiyoshidai, Japan’s largest karst plateau, with 4502 hectares designated as a national park and 1384 hectares designated as a special natural monument.

The countless limestone rocks from ancient coral reefs are dotted around the site, and the view is superb, which cannot be experienced anywhere else.

It is a wide range of scenic spots.

The photo shows the view from the Karst Lookout.

It’s a scene of endless grasslands and limestone, with a panoramic 360-degree view.

Access:How do we get there?

It takes about 40 minutes by car from Shin-Yamaguchi Station where the Shinkansen stops.

The Beppu Benten Pond is located a short distance away from the main tourist attractions in the vicinity, Akiyoshidai and Akiyoshido.

Basically, it’s impossible to get around on foot.

Buses can be used for transportation, but since they are used by local residents rather than tourists, it is not suitable to visit every tourist spot.

I highly recommend a car for sightseeing in this area.
