Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is located at the base of the Izu Peninsula’s western part.

You can reach Numazu Station from Tokyo Station in about an hour by Shinkansen!

Get excited as you plan your pilgrimage (visiting locations featured in anime, movies, etc., to enjoy them) and head towards your destination!

You’ll arrive in no time while planning your various itineraries.

Secure “Noppo Pan” at the Numazu Station kiosk!

There are kiosks at both the north and south exits of Numazu Station, where you can buy “Noppo Pan,” a sweet bread made in Numazu!

This sweet bread, with its distinctive giraffe packaging, frequently appears in “Love Live! Sunshine!!”.

One of the members of “Aqours,” Hanamaru Kunikida, loves “Noppo Pan” and is always happily eating it.

Try comparing the various flavors available!

It makes a great souvenir too.

How should you tour the sacred sites in Numazu?

Next, let’s talk about how to tour the sacred sites in Numazu.

The sacred sites are mainly concentrated in two areas: the “Numazu City Area” and the “Uchiura Area,” which is quite far from Numazu City.

If you only want to visit the sacred sites in the Numazu City Area, you can easily walk around. However, if you also want to visit the Uchiura Area, it’s recommended to use the “Love Live! Sunshine!!”-themed bus.

Make sure to do some research before using it.

“Plaza Verde” at the North Exit of Numazu Station

[Numazu Sacred Site] The Rooftop Garden of Plaza Verde

Now, let’s introduce the sacred sites in Numazu, starting with the ones closest to Numazu Station.

First is “Plaza Verde,” about a 3-minute walk from the north exit of Numazu Station. This is a comprehensive convention facility, but in the TV anime, it became the main activity spot for “Aqours” from the second season.

The rooftop garden appeared in episode 4 of the second season. It’s a beautiful, well-maintained garden, perfect for taking a break.

[Numazu Sacred Site] There is also a sacred site in front of Plaza Verde

This is the sacred site in front of Plaza Verde.

In episode 5 of the second season, Yoshiko Tsushima picked up a puppy here.

Since it’s very close to the station, you can visit it quickly!

Numazu Riverside Hotel next to Yohane’s House Sacred Site

This is “Numazu Riverside Hotel,” about a 7-minute walk from the south exit of Numazu Station.

This business hotel is next to the apartment that is the sacred site of Yoshiko Tsushima’s house.

Numazu has a variety of business hotels, making it a pleasant town for those who think “One day isn’t enough to explore Numazu!”.

Among them, I recommend this “Numazu Riverside Hotel”!

Enjoy the view from the Numazu Riverside Hotel

This is the view from the room I stayed in.

On a clear day, you can see Mount Fuji beautifully from the room.

The room is clean, and the facilities are well-maintained!

It’s also about a 5-minute drive to Numazu Port, so you might want to stay overnight and have breakfast at Numazu Port!

Yoh-chan’s Sacred Spot! “Oranda-kan”

The next sacred site in Numazu is the café “Oranda-kan,” about a 10-minute drive from Numazu Station.

This is the model for the home of “You Watanabe” and appeared in episode 11 of season 1 of the TV anime “Friendship, Yousoro!”

The entrance is filled with many “You Watanabe” goods! It feels like they are welcoming us, making it a delight.

It seems like the goods displayed in this area are updated every time I visit. You can feel the love!

When taking photos here, make sure to ask the staff for permission.

While you’re here, try ordering “Omusoba”!

When you order “Omusoba,” it comes with ketchup toppings!

That’s right! You can recreate the “Yokisoba” made by “You Watanabe” in episode 10 of the TV anime “Shy Noodles Begin!”

I also recreated “Yokisoba” like this.

I enjoyed it, thinking, “This is the Yokisoba that Yoh-chan made!”

It was a very satisfying dish with lots of ingredients.

Climb the Giant Flood Gate “Byuo”

The next sacred site in Numazu is “Numazu Port Large Observation Flood Gate Byuo,” about a 2-minute walk from Numazu Port.

It’s the sacred spot where “You Watanabe” and “Mari Ohara” had their “frank talk” in episode 11 of season 1 of the TV anime.

Seeing it up close, you’ll be overwhelmed by its size!

Enjoy the panoramic view from the 30-meter high observation deck

The view from the 30-meter high observation deck is simply stunning.

From one side, you can see the cityscape of Numazu and Numazu Port, and from the other side, you get a panoramic view of Suruga Bay. Sitting on the bench here, illuminated by the sunset, is perfect for having a “frank talk” with friends.

At night, it’s beautifully lit up, making it a great spot for couples as well.

Awashima Marine Park

The next sacred site in Numazu is “Awashima Marine Park.”

It is about a 35-minute bus ride from JR Numazu Station South Exit.

The entire island is a theme park, so you won’t be charged extra for the aquarium♪

Feel the sea breeze on the ferry

When you arrive at Awashima on the “Love Live! Sunshine!!”-themed ferry (*), first take a tour around the island.

Since it’s an island surrounded by the sea, you can enjoy the pleasant sea breeze as you walk around.

(*) Note: As of August 2022, the ferry may not be in operation, so please check in advance.

There is a Frog House

This is the “Frog House.”

It is the sacred site of “Kanan Matsuura’s” house.

There is also a gas cylinder labeled “Kanan,” a nice touch♡

Additionally, this “Frog House” boasts the largest number of frog species on display in Japan!

It’s perfect for frog lovers too!

Be sure to stop by Awashima Shrine

This sacred site appears in episode 4 of season 1 of the TV anime “Two Hearts”.

It’s located along the path leading to “Awashima Shrine,” near the top of Awashima.

Take a break at this rest area while making your way to “Awashima Shrine.”

The path to “Awashima Shrine” is steep and full of insects, so be careful with your footwear and clothing.

In the summer, it’s recommended to bring insect repellent spray!

Luxurious! Awashima Hotel

The luxurious hotel on Awashima is “Awashima Hotel.”

“Awashima Hotel” is the sacred site of “Mari Ohara’s” house.

Truly fitting for a wealthy character.

Both the exterior and interior are decorated with a luxurious feel, and since the hotel is located at the edge of the island, you can enjoy ocean views of Suruga Bay from your room or the large public bath.

On clear days, you can also see Mount Fuji, making it a perfect luxury hotel for those who want to spend a blissful time.

The garden of Awashima Hotel is also a sacred site for ‘Love Live! Sunshine!!’

The garden, accessible only to guests of “Awashima Hotel,” features the sacred site from episode 9 of season 1 where the third-year members of “Aqours” were as children.

When staying at “Awashima Hotel,” be sure to visit the garden!

Shogetsu’s Mikan Dorayaki♪

The next sacred site in Numazu is the Japanese confectionery shop “Shogetsu,” about a 35-minute bus ride from Numazu Station.

All the Japanese and Western sweets sold here are handmade with great care!

“Shogetsu” appears in episode 6 of season 1 “Let’s Make a PV”.

Like in the show, there is an eat-in space inside the shop!

“Shogetsu’s” specialty is this “Mikan Dorayaki.”

It’s great for taking a break during your Numazu pilgrimage or for buying souvenirs!

Mitsu Beach

The next sacred site in Numazu is “Mitsu Beach,” about a 30-minute drive from Numazu Station.

This sacred site appears multiple times in the series, starting with episode 1 of season 1.

If you are visiting the sacred sites in the Uchiura area, you cannot miss this spot.

It might be nice to gaze at the sea while thinking about “Love Live! Sunshine!!”.

By the way, the island you see on the right in the distance is “Awashima,” which I mentioned earlier.

Yasudaya Ryokan

The next sacred site in Numazu is Yasudaya Ryokan, located across the road from the previously introduced Mitsu Beach.

This traditional ryokan has connections to the famous author “Osamu Dazai.”

In “Love Live! Sunshine!!,” it serves as the sacred site for the home of “Chika Takami,” the protagonist and founder of “Aqours.”

Staying at Yasudaya Ryokan with friends who also love “Love Live! Sunshine!!” and watching the series together sounds like a lot of fun.

It’s a historic ryokan with a relaxing atmosphere, so please be mindful not to make too much noise.

In addition to overnight stays, there are also day-use hot springs, which are recommended for those who want a quick visit to Yasudaya Ryokan.

Izu-Mito Sea Paradise!

The next sacred site in Numazu is Izu-Mito Sea Paradise.

You can access it by bus from Numazu Station South Exit in about 35 minutes.

This is the sacred site from the PV of “Koi ni Naritai AQUARIUM,” the second single of “Love Live! Sunshine!!,” and also appeared in episode 4 of season 2 of the TV anime.

Izu-Mito Sea Paradise is divided into indoor and outdoor exhibition areas.

Inside, you’ll find a large walrus tank and the “Jellyfish Kaleidoscope Tank” that “You Watanabe” leaned against in the PV of “Koi ni Naritai AQUARIUM.”

Be sure to check out the jellyfish kaleidoscope, illuminated by lights that change colors over time!

If you’re lucky, you might meet “Uchicchi,” the official mascot of Izu-Mito Sea Paradise… In “Love Live! Sunshine!!,” “You Watanabe” wore the “Uchicchi” costume!

The fluffy texture around the mouth feels nice, so why not gently pet it?

If you meet “Uchicchi,” take a picture together to create a wonderful memory!

Izu-Mito Sea Paradise also hosts impressive dolphin shows according to the timetable!

You can also enjoy the slightly playful acts of the large walrus, making it a great aquarium for family fun, even if you’re not there for the “Love Live! Sunshine!!” pilgrimage.

Vast Grounds! “Niji no Sato”

The next sacred site in Numazu is “Shuzenji Niji no Sato,” located about a 30-minute drive from Numazu IC.

This site briefly appeared in episode 3 of season 2 of the TV anime “Rainbow,” so even those who have visited Numazu multiple times for pilgrimages might not have been here before.

The grounds are said to be almost the same size as Tokyo Disneyland!

This vast theme park features areas themed after “British Village,” “Canadian Village,” and “Japanese Garden,” among others.

I took the “Romney Train,” which connects the “British Village” and “Canadian Village”!

Hop on the authentic “Romney Train,” complete with whistle and smoke, and enjoy various scenic views as you travel.

This is the “Japanese Garden” area.

Every area is perfect for taking photos, so visiting with a camera in hand might be a great idea.

Make sure to visit “Shuzenji Niji no Sato,” which shows different expressions depending on the season.

Izu no Kuni Panorama Park

The final sacred site in Numazu we will introduce is “Izu no Kuni Panorama Park,” about a 35-minute drive from Numazu Station.

This sacred site was used by the third-year students in their childhood in episode 10 of season 2 of the TV anime “Looking for Shiny.”

You will be amazed by the view of Mount Fuji from the ropeway! Also, why not enjoy stargazing on a clear night?

From Nagoya Statition to Gifu!

The staircase leading to platforms 10 and 11 on the conventional line platform at Nagoya Station is depicted.

This is usually a very busy area, so I had to choose the right moment to take photos.

When I visited, some time had passed, and the staircase had been replaced with an escalator.

Platforms 10 and 11 are where trains bound for Tajimi, Nakatsugawa, and Shiojiri on the Kansai Main Line and Chuo Main Line stop (as of the time of my visit).

It might be possible that the opposite entrance was depicted.

Hida-Furukawa Station: The Quiet Charm of a Station

Hida-Furukawa Station appears in the movie when Taki comes to search for Mitsuha.

This station is located in the heart of Hida City, and visiting it brings back memories of the movie scenes.

The area around the station retains the atmosphere of the Edo period, and just walking around makes you feel the history.

It is especially bustling during morning markets and festival seasons.

You might even meet the famous Hida beef mascot.

Hida City Library: A Place of Knowledge and Tranquility

Hida City Library is depicted as a place Mitsuha visits in the movie.

This library boasts modern architecture and a rich collection of books, providing a quiet and calm atmosphere.

Visitors can enjoy reading quietly while recalling scenes from the anime.

The library also has a multipurpose hall and exhibition space where various events are held.

Miyagawa Ochiai Bus Stop

Miyagawa Ochiai Bus Stop is one of the significant locations in “Your Name.” where crucial scenes occur.

This bus stop is located in the quiet mountains of Hida City, Gifu Prefecture, and is the setting for a scene where the protagonists meet in the movie.

Visiting this spot allows you to feel the exact atmosphere depicted in the film, surrounded by nature’s soothing scenery.

The bus stop is set amidst a harmonious blend of rural landscapes and the gentle murmurs of the river, providing tranquility and calm to visitors.

Strolling around the bus stop while recalling the movie scenes helps you forget the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoy a moment of peace.

The scenery at dusk is particularly beautiful, making it an ideal spot for photography.

Hie Shrine

Hie Shrine is depicted as the shrine in Itomori in “Your Name.”

This shrine, located in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, has long been cherished by the local community as a historic shrine.

In the movie, the scenes where the protagonists visit this shrine mark important points in the story.

The first thing you notice when visiting is the beautiful torii gate and the main hall with its traditional appearance.

Passing through the torii gate, a tranquil path leads you into a mystical atmosphere enveloped in nature.

The shrine is particularly enchanting in the morning and evening when soft light filters through, creating a magical ambiance.

The shrine grounds are adorned with beautiful seasonal nature, including cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn leaves.

Visitors can feel the breath of history while spending peaceful moments.

The area surrounding the shrine is dotted with traditional buildings and beautiful scenery, making it enjoyable to stroll around.

Ketawakamiya Shrine (Miyamizu Shrine)

The Ketawakamiya Shrine, located on the mountainside in Furukawa Town, Hida, is rumored to be the model for the “Miyamizu Shrine” that appears numerous times in the movie.

The location and the stone lanterns in front of the torii gate are said to be similar, though it is more closely resembles the shrine shown during the investigative scenes.

Other locations suggested as models include Hie Shrine in Takayama City.

It might be worth visiting both.

Ajidokoro Furukawa

Ajidokoro Furukawa is known as the model for the restaurant that appears in the movie “Your Name.”

This restaurant is located in Hida City, Gifu Prefecture, and is a must-visit spot for fans of the movie.

In the movie, it is depicted as the place where Taki’s admired senior, Ms. Okudera, and his friend Tsukasa enjoy gohei-mochi.

I went on a pilgrimage to explore the stage of PV #0 “Shinonome” of the unaired episode.

The featured location is Shimonada Station on the Yosan Line in Ehime Prefecture.

It is a station famous for its proximity to the sea, often used in railway posters.

A cut with cosmos flowers and the station building.

In reality, cosmos flowers bloom at this location in autumn.

A photo was taken from a miraculous angle.

The Phoenix Hall, depicted on the 10 yen coin, fascinates visitors with its elegant appearance.

The intersection at the east end of Uji Bridge near Keihan Uji Station serves as a stage.

It appears frequently in episode 12.

The area around Keihan Uji Station is relatively quiet, making it a place where you can take your time to look around as a pilgrimage site.

Uji Shrine and Ujigami Shrine

Uji Shrine is a popular spot for students and exam takers as it enshrines the deity of academic achievement.

In episode 5, an episode unfolds here, and the scene where the protagonists visit the shrine is depicted impressively.

The serene atmosphere of the shrine grounds is perfect for calming the mind.

Uji Shrine and Ujigami Shrine are adjacent to each other, about a five-minute walk apart, allowing you to enjoy both.

Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro General Sports Park

Commonly known as “Taiyogaoka,” this sports park appears in scenes of the brass band’s practice and competitions.

The expansive grounds include an athletics stadium, pool, tennis courts, and more, attracting many local citizens for sports and recreation.

Episode 7 depicts practice scenes set in this park.

Uji Bridge

Uji Bridge is a historic bridge over the Uji River and a notable tourist attraction.

In episode 8, characters are depicted crossing this bridge, making it a symbolic location in Uji’s scenery.

From the bridge, you can view the river’s flow and enjoy the picturesque landscape.

This bridge was also depicted in the festival scenes of episode 8.

Kyoto Prefectural Uji High School (Model for Kitauji High School)

Kyoto Prefectural Uji High School is thought to be the model for Kitauji High School.

Upon closer inspection, the resemblance is indeed striking.

From late March to early April during the entrance ceremony season, cherry blossoms bloom, offering a beautiful sight.

*Please enjoy your visit quietly to avoid disturbing local residents.

Hatoyama Green Area near the high school appears in the final scene of episode 12.

Keihan Obaku Station, Nakaji Bakery

The station where Hazuki gets off after school in episode 5 is believed to be Keihan’s Obaku Station.

In fact, the signage clearly displays “Keihan Railway” and “For Uji.”

The station platform appears exactly as it does in the anime.

The bread Shuichi is holding is likely the “Frank Danish” from Nakaji Bakery located in front of Obaku Station.

Shuichi must have really wanted to eat it, as he made a special stop.

Uji City Cultural Center

The Uji City Cultural Center is a cultural facility equipped with a music hall and library.

In the final episode of “Hibike! Euphonium,” a concert scene set here reaches an emotional climax.

Within the facility, local cultural activities are actively conducted, warmly welcoming visitors.

The parking lot at the back is exactly the same as depicted.

Special Feature: Keihan Railway in Shiga Prefecture

Keihan Railway, which actively operates wrapped trains, is once again running a “Hibike! Euphonium” wrapped train.

The Ishiyama Sakamoto Line (Otsu Line) has a track record of operating many wrapped trains, including “K-On!” and “Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!”, and I have always wanted to see them.

This time, I had plans to visit Kyoto to photograph cherry blossoms, so I took the opportunity to stop by Otsu.

At Kawaguchi Park, trains pass right in front of you.

It is also a beautiful spot to take pictures during the cherry blossom season.

What is “Hyouka”?

“Hyouka” is the debut work of novelist Honobu Yonezawa, who hails from Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, and was published in 2001.
The story is a refreshing and bittersweet school mystery about the protagonist, Houtarou Oreki, who ends up joining the Classic Literature Club by chance and solves various mysteries hidden in everyday life with his curious heroine, Eru Chitanda, and their friends.
The series, including “Hyouka,” “The Fool’s End Roll,” “The Kudryavka Sequence,” and “The Doll That Took a Detour,” is collectively known as the “Classic Literature Club Series.”

In 2012, Kyoto Animation adapted it into a 22-episode anime, depicting Takayama City as the model for the setting “Kamiyama City.” A live-action movie adaptation was also made in 2017.
Takayama City, the setting of Hyouka, has been selected for six consecutive years from 2018 to 2023 as one of the “88 Anime Pilgrimage Sites to Visit in Japan” by the Anime Tourism Association. Many fans still visit for pilgrimages.

“Old Town”｜A Popular Tourist Spot for Strolling

Takayama City’s famous tourist spot is its old town.
Lined with traditional sake breweries, craft shops, and stores selling the local specialty “mitarashi dango” (sweet soy sauce-glazed rice dumplings), it’s a great place to enjoy a stroll.
The impressive wooden buildings and scenery, built from the late Edo period to the Meiji period, are designated as a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the government.
In the anime, the old town of Kamisannomachi appears at the beginning of episode 10.

“Kajibashi Bridge”｜Notable for its Two Distinctive Statues!

“Kajibashi Bridge,” which spans the Miyagawa River in central Takayama, appears in the opening and episode 18.
The distinctive feature is the two statues, “Tenaga” and “Ashinaga,” sitting on the left and right railings.
These statues were installed during the bridge’s renovation, completed in 1982.
Their humorous appearance has a charm that makes you want to take a picture.
The “Kajibashi Intersection” west of Kajibashi Bridge also appears in episodes 1, 4, 10, and 18.

“Miyagawa Morning Market Street”｜A Daily Morning Market!

The “Hida-Takayama Miyagawa Morning Market” is held daily on this street, selling seasonal vegetables, fruits, and folk crafts.

Near the area shown in the above photo of Miyagawa Morning Market Street, a pedestrian bridge “Yukishinbashi” was completed in 2020.
Therefore, some details, like the pole in front of the steps where Satoshi stood in the opening, are slightly different from the anime.

“Yayoibashi Bridge”｜Is the Cut of Kajibashi Bridge in the Anime from Here?

Yayoibashi Bridge is located north of Kajibashi Bridge along Miyagawa Morning Market Street. It appears in the opening, episode 11, and episode 18.
The small bridge near Yayoibashi, where Houtarou and his friends crossed in the opening, has already been removed, with only the stairs remaining as a relic.
Also, the cut of Kajibashi Bridge in the opening is probably viewed from this Yayoibashi Bridge.
If you want to photograph Kajibashi Bridge from the same angle as in the anime, it might be helpful to bring a telephoto lens since it’s some distance away.

“Honmachi Street”｜A Row of Unique and Attractive Shops

Crossing Kajibashi Bridge to the west, you’ll find Honmachi Street, lined with unique shops running north and south.
It appears in episodes 1, 5, and 10, showing Houtarou and Satoshi commuting to and from school.
Honmachi Street also features an eye-catching beckoning cat statue that appears in the opening.

In front of the beckoning cat statue on Honmachi Street is the Hida Takayama Antenna Shop “Marutto Plaza.”
Inside the store, there’s an interaction corner for “Hyouka” with posters and a guestbook where visiting fans can leave messages.
They also sell “Hyouka” merchandise, such as clear files, making it a must-visit spot for those on a pilgrimage.

In addition to the Kajibashi Parking Lot seen in episode 11, Honmachi Street also has a signboard featuring Eru, the main character, which blends well with the everyday life of the area, bringing the world of “Hyouka” to life.

Takayama City Library “Kanshoukan”｜Stylish Western-Style Architecture

In episode 18, Eru and Houtarou visit the “Kamiyama City Library” to do some research. The model for this library is Takayama City Library “Kanshoukan.”
The Kanshoukan, modeled after the Western-style Kanshou School building built in the Meiji era, opened in 2004.
Note that you need to apply at the reception desk if you want to take photos inside the library.

Interestingly, Yonezawa wrote the third book in the Classic Literature Club series, “The Kudryavka Sequence,” at this library. While writing a cooking scene, he researched Hida’s local cuisine right on the spot to incorporate it into the story.

“Hie Shrine”｜Also a Sacred Site for “Your Name”?

The Hie Shrine, where Eru and Houtarou went for their first shrine visit of the year, is the model for the Arakusu Shrine in the anime.
It appears in the opening and in episode 20, which depicts the New Year’s visit.
This shrine is known for the Spring Takayama Festival (Sanno Festival) held on April 14 and 15 every year, and for its beautiful autumn foliage with vibrant maple and ginkgo leaves.
Interestingly, it is also one of the sacred sites featured in Makoto Shinkai’s 2016 film “Your Name.”
Since it’s a bit away from the city center, it’s recommended to use a rental bicycle or other transportation to visit.

“Ipponsugi Hakusan Shrine”｜The Model for the Shrine in Front of Houtarou’s House

The Ipponsugi Hakusan Shrine is the model for the Kamiyama Shrine in front of Houtarou’s house, which appears in episode 2.
The “Yatate Sugi,” an estimated 1,200-year-old cedar tree on the shrine grounds, is a designated natural monument of the prefecture.
Since it’s located a bit off the main road in a residential area, it might be slightly difficult to find.

“Kissako Katsute”｜A Calm Moment in a Traditional Atmosphere

The “Kissako Katsute” tea shop, a renovated traditional townhouse about 160 years old, is the model for the “Kissa Hifumi” that Houtarou visits with Senior Irisu in episodes 10 and 11.
Located in the old town area, the interior of this Japanese-style modern tea shop exudes a calm atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing break.
It’s no wonder that the mature and sophisticated Senior Irisu frequents this place in the series.

The shop has seating on the first and second floors, and the tatami room on the first floor closely resembles the seats where the two characters sat in the series.
In addition to matcha, which Senior Irisu is believed to have ordered, you can enjoy warabi mochi and Japanese-style parfaits.
There are also guestbooks and “Hyouka” manga available.

“Bagpipe”｜A Quiet and Relaxed Time

Near the Ikadabashi Bridge over the Miyagawa River is the charming tea shop “Bagpipe.”

The Setting of “Your Lie in April” is the Anime Town “Nerima”

Nerima has come to be known as an “anime town” because many famous manga artists live there, and it is home to Toei Tokyo Studio and Toei Animation Museum, which have deep connections to anime.

Especially around Oizumigakuen Station, the image of “Galaxy Express 999” is prominently featured, with spots in the station where you can take pictures with character conductors and departure melodies that are theme songs, making it clear that you’ve arrived in an anime town the moment you step off the train.

Upon exiting the ticket gates, you’ll come to a plaza called “Oizumi Anime Gate,” which is dotted with statues and panels of anime characters related to Nerima Ward. Notable manga associated with the area include “Galaxy Express 999,” “Tomorrow’s Joe,” “Urusei Yatsura,” and “Astro Boy.”

“Your Lie in April,” said to be set in Nerima, includes many rare spots such as back alleys known only to locals, places used only in image sketches for merchandise, and stores said to model Miyazono Kaori’s house.

The pilgrimage starts at Toei Oedo Line’s “Hikarigaoka Station.” From there, we’ll introduce a course that goes down five stations towards Hoya, transferring to the Seibu Ikebukuro Line at Nerima Station.

Hikarigaoka, Where Kaori Was Hospitalized

The Toei Oedo Line’s “Hikarigaoka Station” is located at the center of Hikarigaoka housing complex. It’s a densely populated area of Nerima Ward, directly connected to large commercial facilities. Located in the northern part of Nerima Ward, close to the borders of Itabashi Ward and Wako City in Saitama Prefecture, it becomes lively with many families and couples on weekends.

In episode 5, the hospital where Kaori is admitted appears, said to be “Nerima Hikarigaoka Hospital.” This hospital is adjacent to “Tokyo Metropolitan Hikarigaoka Park,” a spot where you can see cherry blossoms in full bloom in spring. Although this “Tokyo Metropolitan Hikarigaoka Park” does not appear in the show, it occasionally features in merchandise. When visiting “Nerima Hikarigaoka Hospital,” it’s recommended to take a stroll around the park as well.

For example, there is an image sketch on clear files and notebook covers featuring Kousei playing the keyboard and Kaori playing the violin against a backdrop of a large chimney and cherry blossoms in full bloom. Standing on the vast lawn of Hikarigaoka Park, you can envision the two of them performing serenely.

“TOWA HALL,” Where Performances Often Take Place, is “Nerima Culture Center”

When you exit the north exit of Seibu Ikebukuro Line’s “Nerima Station,” you’ll find a plaza and stairs leading to the “Nerima Culture Center.” Surrounded by “Nerima Ichou Namiki Green Space” and “Heisei Tsutsuji Park,” the area around the “Nerima Culture Center” is lush with greenery, giving a refreshing impression that makes it hard to believe it’s part of the 23 wards of Tokyo.

This “Nerima Culture Center” is said to be the model for “TOWA HALL,” which appears in episode 4. The facility has appeared since episode 1, and its high level of reproduction has become a talking point.

Adjacent to the “Nerima Culture Center” is “Heisei Tsutsuji Park,” said to be the park where Kousei meets Kaori in episode 1.

The scene where Kaori plays the keyboard on top of playground equipment with children. The playground equipment Kaori was on doesn’t actually exist, but every spring, the “Tsutsuji Festival” is held here. “Heisei Tsutsuji Park” is home to 600 varieties and 10,000 azaleas, making it a great place to recall the meeting of Kaori and Kousei while admiring the azaleas during the festival.

The Scene of Chasing the Black Cat: Shakujii Park

“Shakujii Park” is about a 7-minute walk from Seibu Ikebukuro Line’s “Shakujii Park Station.” The park centers around two ponds, “Sanpoji Pond” and “Shakujii Pond.” At “Shakujii Pond,” you can enjoy boating, and there are walking courses and an athletic square. Birdwatching is also possible, making it a popular spot for dates on weekends.

The location used in episode 1, where Kaori chases and searches for a black cat, is said to be modeled around “Shakujii Park.” The back alleys of residential areas, the park the black cat entered, the cherry blossoms, and the bench the black cat sat on are all said to recreate Shakujii Park and its surroundings.

Additionally, along Shakujii River, which flows near the neighboring station “Nerima Takanodai Station,” cherry blossom trees are scattered. This area is known as “Shakujii River Cherry Blossom Viewing Road,” stretching to the front of the Minamidanaka housing complex near Shakujii Park Station. It’s said to be the place where Kaori and Kousei accidentally met in episode 2.

If it’s cherry blossom season, instead of getting off at Shakujii Park Station, get off at Nerima Takanodai Station and walk along the Cherry Blossom Viewing Road towards Shakujii Park Station. The walk is about 1.3 km, so it won’t take too long. You can enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms while visiting the pilgrimage sites.

Various Scenes Feature Oizumi Gakuen Station Area

When you get off at “Oizumi Gakuen Station,” as mentioned earlier, the north exit area is bustling as an anime town. Heading north from the north exit, you will find Gakuen Street, a gentle uphill slope lined with cherry blossom trees that form a beautiful tunnel of flowers in spring, stretching about 3 km.

The scene where Kousei calls Kaori at night saying, “I’ll visit you again,” is said to be in front of “Oizumi Junior High School” along Gakuen Street. The new character, Nagi Aiza, introduced from episode 15, also appears along this street.

The cake shop where Kousei bought get-well sweets for Kaori is also on this street. The animal hospital where Kousei rushed to save the black cat is modeled after “Oizumi Coco Animal Hospital,” located opposite Oizumi Junior High School. Gakuen Street has many pilgrimage sites for “Your Lie in April,” which will surely move fans deeply.

The Café Where the Protagonists Ate Caramel Waffles: La Primeur

The café where the two protagonists ate caramel waffles in episode 3 is said to be modeled after “La Primeur.” This café and cake shop also serves light meals during lunch. The waffles the two ate are a limited menu item available from 2 PM, so if you want to eat the same thing, make sure to time your visit accordingly. In the scene, Kousei played the piano inside the shop, but in reality, there is a fireplace.

This café is also famous for its unique service where they serve coffee in a cup that matches the customer’s image.

La Primeur’s opening hours are 11 AM to 7:30 PM for the shop and 11 AM to 5 PM for the café, with last orders at 4:30 PM. The shop offers not only eat-in but also cakes, baked goods, and bread for takeout. The nearest station is Oizumi Gakuen Station, about a 15-minute walk from the south exit (1.3 km). The café is closed on Tuesdays (with irregular holidays).

The Patisserie Where Kousei Bought Canelés: Patisserie Kamitani

The cake shop where Kousei buys canelés for Kaori’s visit in episode 15 is said to be modeled after “Patisserie Kamitani.” When “Your Lie in April” was a hot topic, they sold canelés on weekends, but they have since stopped selling them.

The pastry chef at “Patisserie Kamitani” has experience as a chef at “Patisserie Kihachi,” making “Patisserie Kamitani” a well-known local shop. Their madeleines, made with locally sourced blueberries, make great souvenirs. Other popular items include the “Nerima Miso Madeleine,” made with miso from Kojiya Saburoemon, the only miso brewery in the 23 wards. Be sure to visit during your pilgrimage.

“Patisserie Kamitani” is open from 10 AM to 7 PM and is closed on Mondays (with occasional irregular holidays). It is located about a 5-minute walk from the north exit of Oizumi Gakuen Station.

The Burger Shop Where Tsubaki and Her Senior Had a Date: Butcher’s Table

In episode 6, Tsubaki and her senior go on a date at a burger shop, modeled after “Butcher’s Table.” This place is famous for its American-sized burgers and sandwiches.

In the scene, a drink as big as Tsubaki’s face appears, and in reality, ordering a drink at this shop will get you a similarly big size. The popular burger is the “American Special Burger,” which features two juicy patties. Enjoy the burger while thinking of Tsubaki and her senior.

Butcher’s Table is open from 11 AM to 3:30 PM and 6 PM to 10 PM. It is closed on Mondays and is about a 9-minute walk from the north exit of Oizumi Gakuen Station.

The setting is Tatebayashi City in Gunma Prefecture.

It is where the main character Tamaki Mari and her friends lived, and you can see the “East Exit of Tatebayashi Station,” which appears several times in the scene where Kimari is about to leave Tatebayashi City, the “Big Tanuki” in the rotary at the east exit of the station that appears in the title background of the first anime episode, and the “New Miyako Hotel Tatebayashi,” which was the model for the hotel where Shiraishi Yuzuki stayed.

The setting of Slam Dunk is Kamakura City in Kanagawa Prefecture.

The most talked about place is the “crossing in front of Kamakura High School Station” where Sakuragi meets Haruko.

The setting is Natsuki’s parents’ home in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture.
In the animation, the actual scenery is depicted as it is.

The “Marumadorimu” train is the model for the “Marumadorimu” train, Natsuki’s parents’ house is modeled after “Ueda Castle,” and the Ueda City Hall and the bus stop at Iseyama are also used as they are in the anime.

Ueda City has a nostalgic rural landscape, and director Hosoda says that the natural scenery of Ueda City is a tourist resource.

What is K-ON?

K-ON! is the story of a light music club at a private high school for girls in Sakuragaoka: Hirasawa Yui (Yui), Akiyama Mio (Mio), Tainaka Ritsu (Ritsuchan), and Kotobuki Tsumugi (Mugi-chan) form a band and start from scratch while the club is in danger of being closed.

When they are in their second year of high school, they welcome a new student, Azusa Nakano (Azunyan), and the total of 5 students depicts the formation of the Light Music Club to their graduation from high school, with both laughter and tears.

The image shows, from left to right, Mugi-chan (keyboard), Azunyan (rhythm guitar), Yui (lead guitar and vocals), Mio (bass guitar and vocals), and Rik-chan (drums), who form a band called Houkago Tea Time (HTT).

Former Toyosato Elementary School in Shiga Prefecture, the Stage of K-ON

This is the old school building that served as the model for the private Sakuragaoka Girls’ High School that appears in K-ON.

It is located in Toyosato Town, Inukami-gun, Shiga Prefecture.

Designed by the famous architect William Merrell Vories, the school building was once called “the best elementary school in the East,” not only for its exterior but also for its ingenuity in many other areas.

Therefore, even if you are not a K-ON fan, you can fully enjoy this school building.

It is also portrayed in the work in a way that is not too at odds with real life.

This is the main gate of the school building.

Frankly speaking, it looks so splendid that it is hard to believe that it is an elementary school.

Passing through the main gate, you will reach the entrance of the school building.

In the foreground is the fountain that was also depicted in the animation.

The fountain is drawn slightly more compact.

In the animation, water does not come out of the fish in the center of the fountain.

This is the principal of Sakuragaoka High School, which has appeared in many works.

The form is exactly the same.

As you can see in the photos above, most of them are so faithfully reproduced that you cannot distinguish between the animation and the real one.

It is a wooden building, so it has a taste and gives us a nostalgic feeling.

There was a mirror on the right side in the foreground, so perhaps this is the place where the animation and the photograph coincide.

The smell of the wooden structure is somewhat nostalgic, and the place is full of emotion.

For those who graduated from elementary and junior high school, this feeling of the hallway is nostalgic.

Next is the stairway with the characteristic rabbit and turtle figurines.

I thought so, but when I actually visited the former Toyosato Elementary School…they were there!

Incidentally, the Hare and the Tortoise is really based on the anecdote, “The Hare and the Tortoise.

The hare and the tortoise start a competition. At first, the tortoise is slow and the hare is fast and has a tremendous lead.

When we actually entered the room, we found that it was a reproduction of the anime with pots for tea time.

It was probably contributed by a K-ON fan.

Visitors were free to write on the blackboard.

Everyone has written their own messages on the blackboard.

I thought it was wonderful because it felt like a space created by everyone.

Next is the place where Mio sang “Pyua Pyua Heart” for the fan club members.

If you are a K-ON fan, you may remember this scene vividly.

This is the place where the shy Mio sang enthusiastically for her fans and made the high school girls, her fans, melancholy and distressed.

As you look at the photos, you may have been able to recall a place with many spectators as in the anime.

On Saturdays and Sundays, the office and other facilities are locked, but the tour itself is possible.

Anyone is free to write on the blackboard in the light music club room on the third floor.

Pilgrimage notebooks are also available for visitors to pick up and write in.

Basically, it is safe to bring in props, except for dangerous ones.

As mentioned above, since the museum is a town complex, there is no charge to visit or enter.

A tourist information center is also open in the former library (now a gallery).

Currently, the former Toyosato Elementary School is used by the town people on a daily basis as a town complex.

Incidentally, on the day I visited, an event was being held with the town people.

There are many K-ON fans who come here to make a pilgrimage to the holy place.

Let’s try to behave moderately so as not to disturb them!

Also, try to be quiet because part of the school is used as a library.

The hallways of the school building are also very slippery, so please be careful.

About the third floor of the former Toyosato Elementary School

The school wishes to remain faithful to the anime for the benefit of K-ON fans.

Please do not do graffiti more than necessary, especially on anything other than the blackboards in the 3rd floor club rooms, as it is totally prohibited.

Also, there are many goods donated by K-ON fans throughout the school.

Of course, taking these items home without permission is also prohibited.
