“Ramen Kasumi” has been highly praised for a while.

The ramen, made with plenty of chunky back fat, is irresistible for those who love back fat.

The photo is of the special niboshi (dried sardines) ramen.

The flavor is very good, the noodles are thick and crinkly, and they mix well with the soup, making it very delicious.

Personally, I feel it’s somewhat reminiscent of Niigata-style ramen.

The large amount of back fat is something you’d crave in the cold winter months. It’s one of the shops I find myself going back to regularly.

9. Tori Soba Wataru

A hidden gem located in a back alley near Imafuku Tsurumi station in Osaka City, “Tori(Chicken) Paitan Soba Wataru” is known for its outstandingly delicious chicken paitan soba.

The chashu and boiled eggs are very tender and well-seasoned, perfectly complementing the soup.

It’s a modern, typical chicken paitan soba.

Interestingly, all the staff members are women, including the kitchen, where you can sense a craftsman-like atmosphere from the female chef, offering a strangely reassuring feeling.

It’s a place where women can feel comfortable entering.

The photo is of chicken paitan soba, but they also sell a lobster miso flavored ramen, which is top on the list of dishes I feel I must try soon.

8. Tori Soba ZAGIN Honten

“Tori(Chicken) Soba ZAGIN” is a trending shop with 8 branches in Osaka and Hyogo and 3 overseas.

The shop interior is stylish and luxurious.

The ramen, served in a deep bowl with luxurious toppings like chashu and fried burdock, is visually stunning and delicious.

The chicken paitan soup is richly flavored and creamy.

It’s so deliciously smooth that before you know it, you might find yourself having finished the bowl.

Ever since a friend introduced me to ZAGIN, I’ve been a fan.

7. Ramen Jinsei JET600

“Ramen Jinsei JET600″ has been a go-to place for me for several years, known for its chicken simmered soba.

It’s a shop that always makes me want to come back, one that has made me fall in love with chicken paitan ramen.

The soy sauce mixed chicken paitan soup is absolutely delicious.

I wish there were more locations nearby so everyone could enjoy it.

There’s also a shop called Ramen Jinsei JET near Fukushima station, which is the main branch.

6. Kuso Oyaji Saigo no Hitofuri

“Kuso Oyaji Saigo no Hitofuri” means “The Last Shake of the Damn Old Man”.

Its striking name is a super famous shop known to every ramen lover in Osaka.

Not just for its name, but it’s also a part of the famous “Humanity, All Noodles” chain in Osaka, one of the deservedly popular places.

The main dish here is clam-based ramen, and the picture features clam ramen. The rich clam broth is incredibly delicious.

Other varieties include shijimi (basket clam) ramen and hard clam ramen, continuously enchanting those who eat them.

This place often has a queue, so be prepared to wait.

Kuso Oyaji Saigo no Hitofuri

5. ○de△ (Marude Sankaku)

Operated by the same group that runs the beloved Chicken Soba ZAGIN, “Marude Sankaku (Like a Triangle)” is a shop with an unusual name but high levels in ambiance, taste, and staff quality.

The shop’s ramen uses sea bream in its soup, creating a unique, rich yet light flavor unlike any other.

Besides ramen, the shop also serves meat sushi, offering a menu that makes you wonder if it’s really a ramen shop and leaving you eager to share your experience.

“Ramen Tsuji,” a shop I decided to visit based on its high Tabelog rating, is shockingly delicious.

The photo shows soy sauce chicken paitan ramen, a fusion creating an unbeatable dish.

The rich soup beautifully clings to the noodles, making it incredibly delicious. Before you know it, you might become a regular.

The 8-seat counter is always packed, so expect to wait in line, but it’s worth the wait for the top satisfying experience.

Originating in Kyoto, “Menya Takei” is known for its Tonkotsu fish shellfish ramen, a style not commonly found in Kansai.

Operating 8 stores in Kyoto and Osaka, the shop is famous for its tsukemen (dipping noodles), but for someone who prefers regular ramen, it was an incredibly delicious experience.

A perfect blend of pork bone and seafood broth creates an irresistibly delicious flavor.

It’s a place you’d want to move nearby just to make weekend ramen visits a routine.

A must-visit in Kansai for both its surprising taste and appearance.

Located near Ebie Station in Osaka, “Chuka(Chinese) Soba Mugen” offers more than just regular Chinese soba.

It’s truly demonstrates that we are all about noodles.

It’s the place where the wait time before eating has always been overwhelmingly long due to its popularity and guaranteed queues.

Expect to wait with 14-15 people as a normal sight.

The rich shellfish soup is a taste parade for the senses, making it a top destination for anyone wanting to experience the charm of Osaka ramen.

It’s a place you’d want to visit repeatedly for its truly exceptional taste.

Hall of Fame: Kadoya Shokudo Main Store

Kadoya Shokudo in Osaka is the ultimate ramen shop that needs no introduction.

It consistently ranks at the top of any Osaka ramen ranking, and it’s a must-visit at least once for any ramen enthusiast living in Osaka.

The ramen here feels nostalgically classic yet refreshingly new.

It used to be located in Tsurumi Ward, and though I visited occasionally, the frequency has decreased since it moved to Nishinagahori.

However, it’s always crowded, so I recommend visiting with plenty of time to spare.

Kadoya Shokudo

If you proceed from Bentencho Station’s ticket gate to the 2nd floor of Art Hotel Osaka Bay Tower, you will find the entrance to time travel. Once you step in, it’s a luxurious and colorful hall of Azuchi-Momoyama culture!

“Solaniwa Onsen OSAKA BAY TOWER” is a day-use hot spring facility where you can enjoy bathing in a gorgeous atmosphere.

Inside the facility, you can handle everything, including shopping, with a key band and settle the bill at the end.

After receiving a key band at the reception and changing into the facility’s attire, you can enjoy the baths with the lightness of strolling around a festival in a yukata.

In the hot spring area on the 4th and 5th floors, you can enjoy various baths such as garden-view baths and outdoor baths with water springing from 1000 meters underground.

There are baths with silk-like fine bubbles and baths with high-concentration carbon dioxide gas dissolved.

The “Sky Garden” on the rooftop is a vast Japanese garden of about 1000 tsubo (approx. 3300 square meters), where you can stroll around in a yukata.

For an additional fee, you can also enjoy a rock bath called “Heat Wind Alley” and private outdoor baths.

Naniwa-no-Yu Natural Hot Springs

Located in the heart of the city, just “within 2 km from Osaka Station,” is the natural hot spring, “Naniwa-no-Yu.”

Drawing abundant spring water from 659 meters underground, it fills the open-air baths and indoor baths up to the 8th floor.

The water quality is sodium-chloride-carbonate hydrogen ion spring.

Derived from the geological layers of 1.5 million years ago when this area was under the sea, the hot spring is renowned as “beauty water.”

With a trace amount of carbon dioxide, you can particularly enjoy a leisurely soak in the open-air bath called the “Source Bath.”

Comparing it with the artificial carbonated bath in the indoor section could be interesting. There are also sitting baths, lying baths, saunas, and more.

Renovated and reopened in April 2022.

Introduced “Auto Louver” by Izness in the Tower Sauna (men’s bath, as shown in the upper photo) and far-infrared sauna (women’s bath)!

The women’s steam sauna also features “Collagen Light.”

The indoor carbonated bath is also new, and the wooden deck in the open-air bath has been replaced with Ryukyu tatami. New delights abound.

Kamigata Onsen Ikkyu

This is a day-use hot spring facility located in the seaside area of Konohana Ward, Osaka City.

Just a 10-minute drive from a nearby large-scale movie theme park.

Seems like the perfect place to relax and recover after a day of hearty play.

The “commitment” here is that they use natural hot spring water in all baths.

Since the source temperature is relatively high at 50.3°C, it is slightly cooled by passing through a heat exchanger’s pipes but remains completely undiluted. They flow the water without adding any, and there is no recirculation.

Separated into the “Wooden Bath” zone and the “Stone Bath” zone, the genders alternate on odd and even days.

Various baths are available, including open-air baths, ceramic baths, beating baths, and an ultra-fine mist sauna.

Kowanoyu Natural Hot Springs

Known as the “second-highest mountain in Osaka City,” Mount Showa (Showazan) stands at an elevation of 33 meters.

The entire area has become a leisure spot known as Showa Park.

Kowanoyu is a day-use hot spring facility located just east of Mount Showa.

From open-air baths like Tsubo-yu and Atsu-yu to indoor baths like Attraction Bath and Relaxation Bath, it offers various types of baths for a relaxing time to soothe fatigue.

The Spa World facility is divided into two zones: “European Zone” and “Asian Zone,” with a monthly rotation of genders.

The European Zone features numerous “Thermae” baths, such as ancient Roman baths, the mythical Atlantis of Greece, and Finland’s sauna house.

The Asian Zone includes baths inspired by Islamic stone baths, the Persian bathhouse modeled after the Palace of Persepolis, a Singaporean SPA, and various Japanese baths like a mountain stream open-air bath and a large cypress bath.

Tsurumi Ryokuchi Yumoto Suisyun

A comprehensive hot spring facility located in the greenery of Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park, a favorite spot for Osaka citizens.

With an outstanding 2-minute walk from Tsurumi Ryokuchi Station and long operating hours, it’s easy to drop by casually.

The spring source gushes from approximately 1300m underground at about 47°C, containing high concentrations of hot spring minerals, and is known as the “hot water” because it retains heat well.

You can enjoy spacious open-air rock baths, and there are also artificial carbonated baths with high levels of carbon dioxide gas and milky baths infused with plenty of enzymes.

It’s a place where you can enjoy a different atmosphere at a reasonable price.

If you make a reservation, you can enter the cafe smoothly.

You can only make reservations on weekdays and not on weekends or holidays, so it’s best to make sure you have plenty of time to get there to avoid waiting.

A long-standing maid cafe of super good value for money.

Genre: Classical style

Located right near Namba station, it is a long-standing maid cafe on the street.

It is said that it was originally a Western food restaurant, so it is characteristic that anyway, all the menus are delicious.

It is an easy atmosphere even for a beginner to enter and the quality of maids is high.

Also, it is the best charm that you can enjoy there at a reasonable budget as there is no cover charge.

The services are also of general Entertainment style, so you should be able to be satisfied even for sightseeing purposes.

There are some stuff who speak English in this shop according to the Japanese blog.

It was famous as a store that has many cute girls before, but now, maybe normal…

Located in a place where is a bit far from the main street, it is a store that has a calm atmosphere with characteristic of a long maid costume.

Because the quality of the food menu is not bad and girls are also cute, it is not a bad atmosphere overall.

But, because auras of distinctive regular customers are a bit powerful, it may be a bit tough for a beginner.

There is no cover charge and it is a store on the street, so the store has enough conditions that even tourists can easily enter.

But, there may be many people who were taken aback with regular customers who seem to have thick characters and who can be seen from outside, and turned back.

“Benten Dori”, the main street of Solaniwa Onsen.  There are lined up with the sale of goods and restaurants.

The inside of the building where good-old Japanese town and modern Japanese are perfect fusion is felt as if you are time traveled into the past.

You will be surprised by so high the quality that you may find it like filming location, not like just an onsen facility!

Solaniwa Onsen is located on the 2nd to 5th floors of OSAKA BAY TOWER North.

There are a bedrock bath, relaxation space, and the area of dining and sale of goods on the 2nd floor, reclining seat space is on the 3rd floor,  a rooftop Japanese garden is on the 4th floor, and public and private baths of natural hot spring are on the 5th floor.

It is so wide and fulfilled that you may enjoy a whole day long!

Especially on the 2nd floor, there are fulfilled with a traditional Japanese restaurant that uses carefully selected foodstuff, inexpensive Izakaya, Kikizake (sake tasting) corner, Japanese general goods and cosmetics, and souvenirs shops.

You can enjoy feeling as if you come to play in the town of the Azuchi-Momoyama period (approx. 1558-1600)!

The front entrance, “the main guardhouse”.  Here is already looking like a theme park, so you will already become excited.

As it puts a value on a characteristic of Osaka, which is a town of Akindo (a merchant in the Osaka region), greetings by stuff are “Oideyasu (welcome in Kansai dialect)”!

You can choose the loungewear of Yukata (an informal cotton kimono) from three kinds for men and six kinds for ladies.

In the usual large size Japanese spa and bath, you can rarely find such many varieties, so it is fun to select!

At the Roryu Show that is full impact and explosive laughter with no doubt, you will be refreshed by many big waves of laughter while sweating!

Ukiyo Gozen: Yen 2980.

Sekisai Tsubouchi, a legendary chef, who is said that a model of “a chef of Nobunaga”, opened the traditional Japanese restaurant to serve the real Japanese dishes to people of today.

There, you can eat creative set menus that are used condiments, cooking methods of the Azuchi-Momoyama period (approx. 1558-1600), and specialties of Osaka.

Inside the building, there are also three other inexpensive Izakayas, but here is recommended to the one who wishes to enjoy dining relaxed and thoroughly.

A cosmetics store “Beni Oshiroi Benika Honpo”.

As there are many products with retro and cute packages, it is also perfect for a present.

It is a store that “Tora Minagawa”, who was a career woman of the Azuchi-Momoyama period (approx. 1558-1600) and made flourished by opening a cosmetic store, introduces carefully selected Japanese cosmetics.

Cosmetics that are used Japanese materials, including rice bran, Japanese sake, and gold foil, are carefully selected line ups, all of which you cannot get at the drug stores.

The natural hot spring “Bihada no yu” is sprung from 1000 m underground and is alkalescent.

There are also sauna and body scrub treatments.

For families and couples, there are also fully equipped with private baths for two to five persons.

Including “Kawadoko-bo”, “Tsuboniwa-bo”, and “Zashiki-bo” of a tatami-mat room, Such Japanese designs, which cannot be seen in the other facilities, that should be in Japan can be found only in Solaniwa Onsen.

The Japanese garden of about 1000 tsubo (approx. 3300 square meters) that makes you forget that you are in the city center.

On the 4th floor, there is a spacious garden that cannot be thought that it is inside of the building!

While you are soaking slowly in foot-baths, you can enjoy flowers and trees of the four seasons, so it is no doubt that you will be healed.

It is said that attraction shows and projection mappings, etc. will also be performed on a stage located in the center.

As there is also a tea house nearby, it is also recommended to view the garden while enjoying desserts, such as Solaniwa parfait (Yen 580) and a soy milk pudding (Yen 480).

The main target of Solaniwa Onsen seems tourists from overseas at a glance, but from a thought that “working women” should be healed, it is elaborately designed with services for ladies.

What kind of place is “Janjan Yokocho Alley”?

The history and origin of Janjan Yokocho Alley

Opened in 1921, it is a shopping street that is located in the southeast part of Shinsekai.

The official name is called as “Nanyo Dori Shotengai Street”.

In the early Showa, the street was very crowded and lively, and it is said that because, in such bustle, Shamisen (a three-stringed musical instrument similar to a guitar) was strummed around.

And Shamisen sounded like “jan-jan”, it was named as “Janjan Yokocho Alley”.

Now it is a retro sightseeing spot!

The total length of “Janjan Yokocho Alley” is about 180 m and the width is 2.5 m.

After going through under a narrow arcade, the retro restaurant of the local favorite typical dish come appeared.

It became the sightseeing place where families and young tourists visit feeling as if doing treasure hunting.

This time, we will introduce you with the center at “Kushikatsu”, the local favorite typical dish of what is called class B Gourmet, which represents “Janjan Yokocho Alley”!

Ganso Kushikatsu Daruma Shinsekai So-Honten

An unspoken rule is set as you frequently order thinking about timing.

It now became a popular store where even tourists rush in, but it is said that originally it was an existence like a hideaway where only residents visit.

Tengu

Refined and crispy!  It is an exquisite skewer that ladies like!

It is a popular Kushikatsu store that is one of the best in Shinsekai.

A bit small skewer and refined crispy coating, which is firmly deep-fried are characteristic.

As it is a refined texture, there are also many lady’s fans.

A recommended skewer is not a quail’s egg but “skewer egg” that one whole chicken egg is fried.

It is a light, dry texture, and is very well filling.

It is a Kushikatsu store located just at the center of Shinsekai.

It is a talented store that continues expanding fan base gradually in a hot spot where famous stores spark.

A thin coating covers closely surface of the foodstuff and locks up Umami taste.

Texture that includes both crispy and fluffy is of a high degree of addiction!

The reasonable price of “from 90 yen per one skewer” is also attractive.

Surprisingly, this “egg skewer” is a soft-boiled egg!

The thick and creamy yolk overflows from inside.

As it is seasoned, a sauce is not needed.

You can eat it tasty as it is.

Unexpectedly good!  Off-menu items of Shinsekai.

It is a well-known long-standing inexpensive restaurant in the neighborhood of Tsutenkaku Tower.

It is also famous that it serves “udon noodle stew” as “off-menu item of Shinsekai”.

It is not a typical chowder-type stew but is a light stew of pot-au-feu style that is of clear soup.

Simple foodstuffs like an onion, a potato, and beef also match well with udon noodles.

The characteristic of Osaka udon is a bit weak in chewy and is soft.

Good in digestion, it is not to burden to a stomach, so it is perfect as finishing off of a night drink, also as a breakfast of a hangover morning!
