Mikiya, Ryokan With History In Kinosaki As A Town Of Literature

Mikiya One of the persons that you cannot miss when talking about history of Kinosaki Onsen is Naoya Shiga, a writer, who was active from Meiji through Showa.

And the  ryokan “Mikiya”, located in 15 minute walk from JR kinosaki Onsen station (free shuttle service is available) is deeply related with him.

Starting with Naoya Shiga at the head of list, there are many cultural people visited here.

The ryokan has been more than 300 years since establishment, and the building of wooden construction itself has been built in Showa the 2nd (1927), and is registered as the national tangible cultural treasure.

Naoya Shiga had a minor collision with Yamanote line trains in Tokyo in Taisho the 2nd (1913), and seriously injured.

It was this “Mikiya” where he visited for recuperation by hot spring cure.

From his experience of about three weeks, stayed in “Mikiya”, he wrote the one of his works “Kinosaki nite (at Kinosaki)”.

And, the room of his choice for staying was “Room the 26th” of the photo.

It is open for observation only for the in-house guests (but, closed when there are staying guests), so it is a bit known sightseeing spot among those who like modern literature.

The massive appearance that is registered as the national tangible cultural treasure by the Agency for Cultural Affairs directs time to the higher class, even after you enjoyed casually going around the public baths.
